Throwback: some old sketches found while cleaning. These were meant to become watercolor pieces. They're so old, its like looking at new ideas!

playing with words and shapes (digital)
*Update: it was a year of wondrous things. The years after that... 😬😬😬 Sketches done while on hold... Eventually got a human on the phone, and in the meantime gained clarity about an idea. NOT the same satisfaction I get from pencil and paper brainstorming, but it helped!
Doodling on objects digitally not only saves time in figuring out the direction a piece should take. It also saves paint! I use the Pixlr app for android to experiment on images taken with my phone camera. Click play on the image below to view a slideshow of design trials. I recently shared a piece that had been lingering in my studio, unfinished for years. On the verge of tossing this giant paper bowl I started years ago, I decided to ask for input from people who follow my work on social media. The response quickly reignited inspiration around the piece, and I decided to accept the challenge of finishing it. So I started to consider the necessary steps. In no time, a clear cut idea came to me. I wholeheartedly agree with Picasso, who said, "inspiration exists, but it has to find you working". I back tracked to make a quick sketch for clarity, and did a couple of others experimenting with alternate concepts. Here are two. I'm not sharing the final concept yet, but will be posting updates on my Instagram and other social accounts. Wish me luck!
